classes cut?

Do you think that next year's AP and fine arts classes should be cut to help with the proposed budget cuts?

no, i dont think our ap classes should be cut. those classes help students get ready for college and some students need to take those classes to be accepted into good colleges.

I hope they do not cut the AP or Fine Arts classes our school district. We need to make sure our students are given opportunities to get into college. Why should our students pay for the mistakes of government has made by overspending.

These courses should not be cut because we need them to help us prepare for our futures when we go to college so the classes that we take at college will not be so difficult.

I don't think they should cut the classes. These classes help us get ready for college. It's outraging that they even consider that as an option!

I seriously do not think that AP nor Fine Art classes should be cut. AP classes help us get through college. They prepare us to be ready for the future and for the real world. Also AP students are the kind of students who are serious about college and cutting these classes will not help them prepare for college. Isn't that what high school is all about?
Anyway, Fine Art classes should not be cut. We have a lot on our mind and we should have a chance to express ourselves in a healthy way. We could either draw in an art class or play music in a music class. Either way we need some time to relax in a class and to prepare for college.

I think that they should not take away the next year's AP and fine arts classes because they are very important to the students. These classes help students get prepare for their future.

I believe that the district should not cut the art classes and advanced placement courses to save money. It is a scary reality that the advanced students get forgotten while all attention is placed on low achieving students. It is proven that when art classes were cut from Russian academies the suicide rate went up and without an creative outlet i fear that the same may happen to the high school students in the central valley. If the district were to cut the art classes it would be a travesty! And as an AP art student i completely disagree with this act.

Even though times are hard, cutting AP and fine arts classes is not a solution. It may be saving money but at what cost will it be for us, the students? We are the future. We will be the ones who will be coming up with new ideas, new technologies. But how can we without the AP classes? We NEED the AP classes and all the fine arts classes we can get. How can our brightest students expand their intelligence in remedial classes? How can our creative artists express themselves without the fine arts classes? I just think its absolutely ridiculous to take away anything from the education system. We already have little to begin with, what more do they want?

I agree with Jairo, these classes are for us. It is not our fault in which the economy is suffering. The adults, no offense to those adults that are free from blame, are the ones that are just creating a worse country for us. If the children of the nation could unite, they should revolt against the adults. The mature children, of course. The adults are supposed to be making this country better, but, they are just making it worse. How are we supposed to run this country after they die if we cannot first learn how?

I believe that our classes should not be cut because of budget cuts. The government takes away from school, which is educating the future leaders of America, but do they take away money from the state prisons? Criminals are way better of than we are, and that just does not seem fair and the money should go to us and our eduational future!

Anonymous said...

No, the salaries of our good friends in Sacramento should be cut instead.

Of course, that won't happen, but it is still wrong for the government to always cut education first. How can the youth of today and tomorrow grow if our school programs are continuously being cut?

NO! Granite needs these classes! Budget or no budget, we all need to have the oppurtunity to excell in school and we deserve the oppurtunity to prepare ourselves for college. We earned our right and grades to be in the AP classes. I believe that no matter how low the money gets, the AP classes should stay! It would be a HUGE burn to us if they didn't and we would be deprived of the proper education that we earned.
We need these classes for students such as myself who want to go to college and exell in school. Don't we deserve that?

Anonymous said...

To tell you the truth NO because these AP classes are actually the once who get us into collage and what I mean by that is that a collage gets the people with a better back ground. And if they cut the AP classes then it will be hard to get into collage for those kids who really want a future.

NO!! These class really help us kids who try hard and want to get into college. They help us learn better and we get better study habbits.

no. These classes are for the kids who actually try and want to succeed. We need these classes. They are a good resource for us.

NO I think we have have fine arts classes for a reason. As we all well know we all aren't going to grow up to a scientist or a layer. We need these classes for people who have a passion for what they like to do. Beacause if we all get taught the same thing at the same level then there will be people either not beingh taught enough or be taught too much. AP classes are for people who are commited to give all they got to be the best they can be. So if AP and fine arts classes they will have a lot of people dropping out of high school.

The AP Classes should not be cut to help save money, they help prepare kids for college and also help kids get scholarships in order to even make it to college in the first place. Isn't that why we're in high school in the first place.. to eventually move on to college to get a well playing job.

I agree with everyone else...I absolutely, positively disagree with the issue of cutting AP classes. The point of AP classes is to give the determined students a chance to pass the test and skip classes in college and save money. It isnt our fault that the government cant manage their money and how it is being used.

Anonymous said...

Cutting the AP classes will be a great let down for the students. When the students take these classes they are trying to get ready for college and save a little money. If they cut the classes, what are they supposed to do? They will have to be in the average classes, when they shoudl really be in the AP classes. Also, they are thinking about sending the students in the AP classes to other schools like Monache and Porterville. That is also a bad idea because Granite has the best AP scores in the city, and making the students go to other schools woudl eb a waste of time.

The fact that this is even being considered is absolutely ridiculous.

One must realize the importance of both AP and Art to not only Granite Hills itself, but all the students attending as well. And I am not just speaking as both a biased artist and AP student, I'm speaking for all of us. I currently attend a regular civics/econ class and very much regret not having taken it in summer school or just took the AP class instead. It is ridiculous. I have yet to learn really anything that I didn't already know before thanks to the class, APUSH(thank you Ms Efseaf, I love you and your class), our assignments consist of making game boards, and I for the most part, hate the class. It's a fun class to goof around in, which I certainly do, however, if one person feels that this level of education is trite and unchallenging, then just imagine how many others will if these critical classes are cut.

And the fact that the fine arts are being considered for removal is even crazier. Art is a part of life. Art is essential. It's a way for us to escape for, if only a moment, the time being. It's a way for us to realize what we're capable of. Art classes, dance, and whatever else is being considered to be removed, can not be removed. It would be an insult to not only this school, but we as human beings as well.

I don't think these classes should be cut. These classes help us do well and succeed in life and if these classes are cut what will happen to our futures.

Anonymous said...

No they should not take these classes away. Theses classes are for the determined student that want to go to college. What will we do without them.

Anonymous said...

Cutting classes that help students get into good college is wrong. How do they expect to solve the crisis going on if they don't help educate the people that will have to deal with it? They really should't cut from education, it's the most important thing there is for the future.

Susan Crystal Espinoza said...

Wow. Education is something that many people take for granted and it is not until it is being taken away that we realize how fortunate we are. I definitely do not agree with the loss of AP and fine arts classes. I understand the situation we are in economically but if we lose those classes, how can we expect the motivation amongst highschoolers to remain high? It will be a loss to all the students who want to pursue a higher education and it will also be a loss for the "fun" part of high school because all we will be able to focus on is the basic school subjects. Overall, it is a really bad idea to get rid of some AP and Fine Arts classes.

No. I don't think that these classes should be cut. AP classes help kids like myself prepare for our future. Even though an art class is considered academic, students still need art credits to get into college. How are we suppose to get art credits if they cut art classes? All in all, I don't think that its fair that they are taking classes that are going to help us prepare for college away from us.

I think that the AP class should be the LAST classes they should cut. If anything they should get rid of all the classes that not as helpful. I won't specify because I'm not in the lower level classes, but I do know that some of them, the kids don't even need to take.

Our AP and fine arts classes should not be cut. If anything they should be moved maybe to one high school if numbers are too small. Cutting them in gernal would be a horrid thing to do because there actually are some teenagers that want to take AP classes. They want to take AP classes like this because they believe it will help them be able to approach college in a better manner.

Fine art classes are great for creativity. School should be more than just bookwork in my opinion and fine arts classes are great electives.

I simply don't think students should have to suffer just because our state is over spending.

I don't believe that the AP classes and/or Fine Arts classes should be cut for next year's budget. The future of college for some students depend on passing the AP classes so we don't have to take them in college. For the Fine Arts, I believe that the state should definitely not cut the Fine Arts programs. These courses are part of the A-G requirements for acceptance in college.

N said...

No, If the state is cutting these classes it just comes to show where there true priorities are.
They talk about "no child left behind" yet they are cutting advanced courses and extra curriculur activites left and right. The State needs to see that cutting classes will not straiten out the economy, and neither will cutting the pay of thousands of state workers, maybe the legistrate should think about cutting their millon dollar+ salary...

I think that AP classes should not be cut because Granite has great Ap programs. AP classes help students get prepared for college. Also AP classes can save money by passing the AP exams. AP classes should not be cut.

i don't think they should cut AP classes because they benefit alot of highschool students to be prepared for college. Also, extra work always helps became a better student. So, if they do cut classes then many kids won't be able to experience a college class in high school.

I believe that next year's AP and fine arts classes shoudn't be cut to help with the proposed budget cuts. These classes help us excel and challenge ourselves more than the regular classes that are offered. Each AP class also helps students save money and succeed in life. These classes are also an essential to helping us get ready for college and they shouldn't be cut.

The AP classes give us students an oppurtunity to get prepared for college classes. I hope the AP classes don't get cut. These classes are very beneficial to student who want to better their educational lives. The goverment should not take away our chances of preparing for the future.

No I do not think that next year's AP and fine arts classes should be cut to help with the proposed budget cuts. As a student who went to Elementary school and got stuck in a class with only about 2 other kids at my level I have always felt that we always have got shoved to the side. This way the kids who actually need help got it. I didn’t mind at first but then soon I felt that there was no point to even coming to school if we were going to be ignored. I got to high school and all of that changed. I was excited to be in classes with students like me. My teachers were great and I learned a lot you take our special classes away what do we have to resort to? Going back to classes with the other kids and getting shoved to the side again? No! That wouldn't benefit any of us at all. We have worked hard to get to the level we are at and continue to be succesecful in college. And we can't do that if we don’t have the classes designed for us.

Based on the budget cuts, the AP classes and the fine arts should be cut, but i don't think that it's fair to take something away that could help challenge or relieve people. AP classes really take a person and take out the best in him. A fine arts class helps someone really find their artistic, or creative side. If the classes are cut, then it would really change our generation to only english and math majors, nothing else. It's not right to force that on us especially if someone could change history.

Anonymous said...

Cutting AP classes would be a huge mistake. There are students that actually come to school to try and better their education, and if that is stripped away from them, all their hard work will go to nothing. Passing an AP test is a huge thing to students because it's one less thing to worry about in the process of going to college, which makes life so much easier.

Unknown said...

In my opinion i believe that AP classes should not be cut due to budget cuts. These are the most important classes available for students to take at Granite Hills High School. They help us to prepare for college, and also give us a few college credits too. Therefore, if something must be cut out of the school, i believe it shouldn't be AP classes, it should be something more like pointless electives of some sort.
AP classes need to stay here at GHHS.

Anonymous said...

I do not think that AP and fine art classes should be cut. These classes are essential for kids that are actually trying and want to go to college. If they do get cut this would be unfair. Many other classes are offered for kids that really don’t care about school, yet the state believes this is using their money wisely.

Anonymous said...

I dont think they should be cut they are important and can help us in our future, whether if we go to college or not.

Anonymous said...

I don't think the classes should be cut. For one, the AP and arts classes are fun and help us get prepared for college. The AP classes help us get ready for college because they show us how the teachers act in college and it's colleged-leveled work. The art classes are for people who want to pursue in a career in it. I really don't think that they should cut it the classes because of those reasons.

Anonymous said...

The economy is very hard, but cutting classes should not help. The point of school is for kids to learn and take challenging classes to prepare for college. If the government cuts classes, it isnt fair for students like me to get a head start with getting classes out of the way for college. They prepare us for our future and what we need to expect! It is not our fault that the economy is suffering so they shouldn't take it out on us.

Unknown said...

Students who take pride in the opportunity to get a chance to take AP classes, shouldn't have to deal with those classes being cut. AP classes help us get a taste of college classes. They let us see where we stand at taking all that kind of work. It gives the kids that want to get scholarships a chance to pay less for college. Why should AP classes be cut? They are a positive thing for all kids who want to challenge themselves.

Anonymous said...

It's very unrealistic to think that they would cut AP classes out of Granite. But, AP classes are our way out of the dumb society we live in. AP classes give us a better chance to get in to the college of our choice. Also, it helps us figure out how hard college class will be. If they do cut them (which i think they won't) we would be unable to figure out the hardships of life that our AP teachers can teach us. Also, the AP teachers would also be out of a job.

Unknown said...

Everybody wants students these days to do well, exceptionally well. Elders say that we are the future, and yes that is true we are the future. Now, our elders who tell us to get good grades, take hard classes, and challenge ourselves, are wanting to take away all of the things they have encouraged us to do! They are all going back on their words...and just taking away from the students who have worked hard their hugh school careers and now just leaving us with no challenge.

Anonymous said...

It would be a real mistake to cut AP classes!!! These classes prepare every student for college and their future career. Students should not be paying the consequences of the faults committed by the government. I understand that the economy is in bad shape but our education is also important and should not be put aside. If we live in a country of opportunities, why don't we have the opportunity to have a good education that will prepare us for college?

Anonymous said...

We need the classes. They are here to help us. Not ever student is going to go to college. These class help you decide what you goal in life is. Plus AP classes help you have to spend less money in college. Its already bad that enough that classes like meatal shop, wood shop, auto shop, and home ec have been deleted from our possible classes. Think how many kids a going to grow up an work on cars, build houses, design building, be the next fashion designer.

Anonymous said...

No. These classes are here to benifit us i our education and to help us in the future.

Anonymous said...

In my opinion AP courses should not be cut. The state goes on and on, on how students aren’t prepared for college. Well if they start cutting down the courses that will actually prepare us for college and for life, then how do they expect us to be prepared.

No, I believe that students who actually try and want to succeed should not have to suffer because of the absence of AP courses. I strongly oppose the idea of cutting these classes because they are offered to students who are serious about school and want to achieve their goal of becoming someone in their lives. If we do not have these courses we will not be able to be challenged to our fullest therefore we will not be prepared for college.

I dont agreee with any education being cut at all! For the AP classes to be cut would be even worse. Those classes are needed for students to push themselves and prepare themselves for the college life.
